Wellness

Let's Talk About Wellness!

Health and wellness, they are the same right? Well, not exactly! Scenario 1- You are having coffee with friends.....you sit and eagerly discuss wellness? Ha! (Silence) I know...it is not a hot topic discussion during hang out time. So let's try another scenario... Scenario 2 - Again coffee with friends. You sit down, "Ugh, I need to do something to be healthy. I just want to lose weight by Christmas. Start exercising more?"  Do you realize that you, like a lot of us do not discuss wellness, or what it really means to achieve total wholeness that leads us making healthy choices? You say Deb, that is not a bad thing. True. However, we are cheating ourselves of so much more. What’s the best or worst health, wellness, or lifestyle advice you’ve ever gotten? Why was it the best or the worst? So now you are probably confused, what is the difference between health and wellness? I'm glad you asked. Health is the goal that you wish to attain by performing an activity. Whereas, wellness is the action that you initiate to be healthy.  The World Health Organization defines wellness as..." The optimal state of health. Health of individuals and groups", expressed as "a positive approach to living." Wellness despite being a noun acts more like an action word. It is really an active process that requires us to be engaged participants in the process. We should all be having discussions about how to attain wellness.

The fall season can also make your social events fall with it. The shortening amount of light throughout the day and endless layers from the cold can make anyone want to stay in. However, we tend to miss out on the best parts of autumn!

The family and I, (with much convincing) went to a pumpkin farm? Yes! With an actual pumpkin patch. Didn’t know it could be exciting to see pumpkins on the vines, (especially since my pumpkins weren’t fruitful this year!). But it’s rare, at least where I am, to see them where they grow and not just in a nicely placed pile!

This good old-fashioned farm had more to offer than just the pumpkins! Wagon ride through the entire farm, sunflower field to run through, a nostalgic playground of a seesaw, hamster wheels, giant bubbles and more fun for the kids, and even a farmers’ market- like gift stores and the amazing garden center attached (for me) too!

What started off as pulling 8 people (myself included) to get up and out, turned into tons of family fun on a pumpkin farm and creating a new family tradition. Getting us all into the spirit of fall.

How do you get the fall spirit?  Any awesome moments during? I'd love to try your pumpkin pie recipes! Share your wellness moments!

By engaging in Wellness activities we feel fulfilled and are participants in our life.

It is important to understand that wellness encompasses many aspects of our everyday lives. Such as emotional, physical, spiritual, social, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational activities.

As a visual learner, I see health as downstream and wellness as the spring upstream. As the river of wellness meanders downstream it encounters all that enriches the water to sustain life, and maintain the 8-dimensional balance. They are besties!!!!BFF

It is important to understand how each aspect effects our wellness and ultimately our health.

By engaging in Wellness activities we feel fulfilled and are participants in our life.

In short, wellness is a choice, you have to choose to be well, to be whole, to get up, to put yourselve first, and schedule daily activities that move you closer to attaining your health goals and live a fulfilling life.
